Program Spotlight: Doggy Daycare & Boarding
Learn more about Pawmetto Lifeline’s Daycare & Boarding in this week’s program spotlight!

1) Do you have space? Ah, truly the number one question—and usually the first. There’s really no “best time” to book for your dog’s stay here at Pawmetto Lifeline, BUT as soon as you know your vacation dates or that you’ll need daycare, let us know. It can fill up quickly here, especially during holidays.
We are a smaller kennel facility (24 kennels compared to some places that have as many as a few hundred), so if we are booked we frequently exercise the use of a waiting list and talk with people about alternatives for their requested stay period.

2) What are the requirements for my dog staying with you?
All dogs must be spayed and neutered. There are no exceptions to this, as this requirement ensures the safety and well being of pets. All dogs must be microchipped so they can be properly identified in case of an emergency.
In addition to having been spayed or neutered and microchipped, our guests must have proof of being up to date on vaccines (DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella (every 6 months), and canine influenza) and have a negative heartworm test.
While this may seem excessive to some, CEO Denise Wilkinson says it best: “Most boarding facilities do NOT have shelter animals as we do, and while we do our best not to expose the private clients we must always maintain the highest standards to protect the private clients.” High standards normally mean healthy and happy!
Dogs not adopted through us or who have never boarded elsewhere need a half-day of meet-and-greet time, or “interview” day, first. That way they’ll be more familiar with the environment and staff during future stays.

3) What does playtime look like?
Dogs go out to play and/or potty at least three times a day, sometimes with or without playmates. Owners can request additional individual or group playtime, or even nature walks, for an extra cost.
We have an outdoor play area with equipment and an upstairs indoor dog park. We make certain we have one staff member for every 4 dogs, and no playgroup exceeds 8 dogs. Playgroups are a blast, especially with the kiddie pools involved during the summertime!

4) Can my dog get groomed before pickup?
While we do not professionally groom, we are happy to give baths, nail trims, and even ear cleanings. These are for extra fees, but like all services at Pawmetto Lifeline, all proceeds benefit homeless pets in need. Your dog’s fresh look is saving lives!
It’s important to note that for “spa” services with us, dogs are required to have gone through the application process and stay at least half a day of daycare.

5) What items do I need to bring when my dog comes for boarding? Without a doubt, bring their food! In fact, it’s helpful if you portion the food out before you come by separating it into plastic baggies! This helps us make sure the proper amounts are given and makes feeding your dog’s hungry belly swifter.
Don’t worry about bedding, toys, or bowls—we’ve got all of that covered. Should you decide to bring a blanket or bed from home, please know that there’s a chance of it ending up in the laundry or even torn up a tad as your dog might take the opportunity to chew on it while they’re here. If your pet is on medication, don’t forget to pack that to bring along too!
