Home-to-Home Program
**Home-to-Home Program applicants must live in Richland or Lexington County, SC.
If you have found an animal in distress or lost, we THANK YOU for taking the time to research how to help! The Home-to-Home Program also assists with pet owners who can longer keep their pets.
You are the animal's guardian angel. GOOD NEWS!!! Pawmetto Lifeline can support you in helping the lost/abandoned dog or cat find their forever home. We are operating at maximum capacity, along with most of the other shelters in South Carolina. The community and individuals like you are very important in accomplishing the tall task of making South Carolina a no kill state. Please DO NOT take the animal to a local shelter, as they may be euthanized instead of adopted.
The first step is to try and find out if the animal is lost. You can post photos on Facebook, NextDoor or other social media and/or make flyers for your neighborhood. Additionally, you may bring the dog to a participating veterinarian or bring them to Pawmetto Lifeline to check for microchip identification.
If not microchipped and no one reaches out to claim the animal, our Home-to-Home Program can help you find the pet a forever family.
- We will make an appointment for you to bring the animal to PL, have a medical assessment (with heartworm test) where the pet will be vaccinated and microchipped for identification.
- If the animal is not altered (fixed), we would make an appointment for you to bring the animal in to be spayed or neutered at PL.
- You provide us with photos of the pet, along with a bio or any valuable information about the animal to help us show off the pet on our Adoptions pages.
- For dogs, you can bring them to Saturday Adoption Events at Pawmetto Lifeline until the dog is adopted.
- If you are looking to re-home your pet, we will match your pet to approved applicants. Once we find an adopter, an adoption contract will be created. Adoption fees will be placed in the Home-to-Home Program fund, allowing other animals to benefit from the fund in the future.
The Home-to-Home Program is a one time assistance program, meaning that Pawmetto Lifeline cannot fund the cost of additional animals for the same individual in the future. The goal of our program is to find a permanent home for animals found or who need to be rehomed and keep them from entering the municipal shelters.

Pet Retention
We understand that times are tough and sometimes we all need a little help to get back on our feet. Through the Pet Retention program we can provide the owner with food for the animal, spay/neuter surgery, basic medical treatments, and microchipping. It is our goal, through this program, to ensure that pets and their families never have to be separated due to hard times.

Pet Soup
The first Friday of each month, our volunteers meet approved candidates at Harvest Hope Food Bank to distribute cat and dog food, so that the pets of these families can continue to be nurtured. Pit Priority Program
Pit Bulls come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Unfortunately due to over breeding and stigma associated with breed, these magnificient creatures unfortunately have a higher euthanisia rate if they are surrendered to municipal shelters. Through the Pit Priority Program, Pawmetto Lifeline can offer Pit Bull parents food for the dog, basic medical services, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery if they are struggling financially to keep their pet. If the owners are not capable of keeping their Pit Bull, our program will also offer the owner opportunities to help market their Pit Bull to find them a new safe and loving home, all while the Pit Bull stays with their current family.
