Spotlight: Foster Program
DeeAnn Jones, Director of Training & Foster Program, provides information and insight into the Foster Program at Pawmetto Lifeline.
What is fostering?
Fostering is giving a temporary home to a homeless animal in need

Who is eligible to be a foster?
The great thing about fostering is that anyone can do it! We do require individuals to be over 18-years-old

Why should I foster a pet?
Each day there are thousands of animals that are homeless. Foster homes provide so many benefits to these pets such as love, training, socialization, and a break away from the shelter environment.

What types of pets can I foster? Are they housetrained?
You can foster puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats. There are moms with babies and some animals that need medical homes. Unfortunately, many of these animals come from a municipal shelter with no known history. Since we do not have a home environment until they enter a foster home, we are unsure if they are housetrained.

What if I want to adopt my foster pet?
Pawmetto Lifeline has two programs. Our adoption program gives you the opportunity to adopt the pet or if you are wanting to foster and don’t want to adopt we have our HEART program where those animals belong to another rescue and many times have an adopter waiting on them so you are not able to adopt these companion pets.

I already have pets of my own. Can I still foster?
YES!!! This is a great way to help a foster pet with socialization. During your initial training, you will learn how to introduce each pet!

What if there is an emergency with my foster, such as a medical issue or they escape?
The foster program provides a phone number that can be reached 24/7 if there is an emergency.

Does it cost anything to foster?
NO! We provide all supplies and handle all medical care

How do I get started?
It is easy!!! Just fill out a foster application today at bit.ly/PLLfoster
