Visiting the Beach with Your Pet: Tips for a Fun & Safe Day
A fun day at the beach with your fur-friend can be a lot of fun for you and your pet with the following safety tips!

- Locate a pet-friendly beach
Not all beaches allow pets on the beach year-round. Do your research for a beach that will welcome you and your pet year-round. Be sure to follow time restrictions (i.e. 6am-11am) and pick up after your pet while at the beach

2.Avoid Letting Your Pet Drink Salt Water
Salt water can cause dehydration in pets due to the salt content. A small amount may not be detrimental but can cause stomach upset, vomiting, or diarrhea. Large amounts of saltwater ingestion can end a trip to the local emergency clinic. Be sure to have fresh water available for your pet at all times. If your pet exhibits signs such as trouble walking or vomiting, seek emergency treatment immediately as this can be signs of dehydration.

3. Use Sunscreen
Yes, your pets can sunburn too! Apply pet sunscreen to your pet’s nose, ears, and legs to avoid sunburn. Pets with white fur should have sun exposure limited due to their fair skin under white fur. It is important to use pet-specific sunscreen to avoid potentially harmful ingredients, such as zinc.

4. Avoid the Hottest Part of the Day
The hottest part of the day occurs typically from 12pm-3pm. While playing in the sand and surf with your pet is a LOT of fun, be sure they have access to shady spots out of the sun with fresh water. Pets can become overheated and experience heatstroke during the summer months. If your pet seems tired or is panting more than normal, it may be time to call it a day so that he or she can rest in the A/C at home.

Spending time on the beach, relaxing in the sand with your pet is the ultimate relaxing day for many. Enjoy it safely while creating memories for you and your pet!
